Softball: Meeting Place closes season strong
The Meeting Place Restaurant closed out the 2015 Valley Independent Softball League season with an eight-game winning streak, capped off by a sweep of the Ball Busters.
A seven-run fourth inning turned the tide in Meeting House's favor as it posted a 15-11 win in the opener.
Trailing 2-0 after one, 8-2 after two and 10-5 after three, Meeting House took its first lead of the contest with a big fourth and held it the rest of the way. Luis Rivera's two-run triple capped off the game-changing rally.
Ed Leggo, John DeCarlo, Alex Montero and Rivera each garnered three base hits for the victors.
Joe Pececerillo led the way for the Busters with three hits. Kevin Jones belted a two-run inside-the-park homer in the second.
Winning pitcher Fred Davila and his supportive defense limited the Busters to a lone seventh-inning tally over the final four frames. Steve Donnarummo was tagged with the loss.
A 13-run third secured a 19-7 triumph in the nightcap.
After a scoreless first, Meeting Place plated five in the second before enjoying a third-inning scoring spree that put the game out of reach.
Anson Mero went 4-for-4 to lead the onslaught. Luis Rivera, Ramon Noeguera and Montero banged out three hits apiece and everyone in the lineup drove in at least one run.
Best for the Busters were Aaron Rogers, Matt Barr, Donnarummo and Peccerillo with a pair of hits each.
Davila earned the pitching win over Wayne Britto.
