Matt Weiner placed first in the heavyweight division when the Gaels finished eighth in the 18-team field.

Ray Weiner was runner-up at 220 pounds. Sean Rago placed third at 132 pounds and Garrett Ziperstein took fourth at 113 pounds.

Matt Weiner was seeded first and pinned in 52 and 30 seconds before he defeated No. 3 seed Derrick DeVeau from Middletown in the finals by fall in 1:55.

Ray Weiner was seeded second. He won a 13-1 major decision and pinned in 1:30. Weiner lost a 5-3 decision to No. 1 seed George Harrington from Staples in the finals.

Rago was seeded fourth. He advanced to the semifinals with pins in 36 seconds and 3:45, before falling to No. seed and eventual champion Chase Parrett from Westhill-Stamford. In the consolation finals, Rago pinned Warde’s Jeremy Brault in 4:01 to take third.

Garrett Ziperstein was seeded fourth. After an 11-3 loss to Wilton’s Max Mannino, he wrestled back with wins of 5-1 and 8-0 to get to the consolation finals, where he dropped a 4-1 decision to Mannino.

At 145 pounds, Colin Mengold was seeded fifth. He pinned in 5:15 and scored a 5-4 decision before losing by fall to No. 1 seed and eventual champion Cole Shaughnessy from Warde. In the consolation finals, Mengold lost to Middletown’s Amari Lemon.

Mike Monaco was seeded eighth at 152 pounds. He won his opener 13-5 then lost to Warde’s top-seeded Noah Zuckerman, who went on to win the title. Monaco advanced in wrestle backs with a pin in 4:45 them lost a 10-2 decision to No. 3 seed Ian Anderson from Montville.

Graham Ziperstein placed first in the unofficial 99-pound weight class.
