Joe Thompson and Rich Kopec carried Cahill Law to its second straight title in the Over 30 Division of the Shelton Men\u2019s Basketball League.Cahill took the title by defeating a determined KFC squad, 40-35 in overtime.Thompson led Cahill with 18 points, but it was a 3-pointer by Kopec with seconds remaining in regulation which gave Cahill a chance for the victory.Mark Lauretti paced KFC with 13 points and it looked like KFC was about to take the title in surprising fashion, but its inability to convert free throws gave Cahill life.In OT, it was Thompson and Kopec hitting free throws to seal the win.The fact that KFC was in the final was unexpected, as it knocked off the top seed, Critical Entertainment, 44-43 in overtime, in the semifinals behind 15 points from Joe Callinan.Calvin Teal scored 15 for Critical and kept them in the game.Cahill got to the final with a 47-38 win over Zamba Graphics, as it pulled away in the final quarter. Thompson again paced Cahill with 21 points and Kopec hit some key shots in the fourth quarter.Mike Hart had 15 points and John Coniglio 14 for Zamba.In a consolation game, BUYF romped over MPL, 46-21, behind 15 points from Ralph Mallozzi and 10 from Chris Panik. Ed Sheehy led MPL with seven points.A DivisionJon Robles scored 38 points to lead The Buds to an 81-74 win over Valley Roofing in a key A Division matchup in the Shelton Men\u2019s Basketball League. John Ribas had a game-high 41 points for the Roofers.In other A games, Fitzgerald Construction won twice during the week to move its league-best record to 12-1. Fitzgerald defeated The Mad Dogs, 81-70 in a surprisingly tough contest.Nick Corkery led a balanced attack with 19 points. Derrick Davis sizzled for 33 points in defeat as he hit eight 3-pointers.Fitzgerald also won a tough game over The Buds, 67-57, behind 15 points from John Rullan. Jon Robles was high scorer for The Buds with 20.Colony Grill easily defeated CDW, 69-36, as Justin Pereiras had 34 points for the winners.Scott Dwelly led CDW with 10 points.Kyle\u2019s Tile beat Uptempo, 79-46, behind 24 points from Jeff Putnick and 23 from Austin Gagner.Matt Todice had 12 points for Uptempo.
