Jimmy Hunter and Arianna Berardi of Shelton High were named Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for the Spring season.The SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program is sponsored by the SportsCenter of Connecticut and recognizes student athletes who have a minimum of a B (3.0) overall and earn a varsity letter. Student athletes also demonstrate leadership qualities by being a positive role model both on and off the field and show commitment to self-improvement and put their team before themselves.Jimmy HunterA member of the boys soccer and boys volleyball teams, Hunter ranked first out of 412 in his class, with a grade-point average of 102.9. Other accolades include: volleyball team captain, soccer team captain, three-time SCC All-Academic Team, SHS Valedictorian, CAPT Scholar, Spanish Honor Society, AP Scholar with Distinction, SHS Honor Roll, SHS Student of the Month, National Honor Society, FBLA club public relations officer, ASP Appalachian Service Project, Special Olympics volunteer swimming and track, Book & Achievement awards and CIAC Scholar Athlete award. \u201cJimmy is a great leader who inspires others around him both in the classroom and on the court,\u201d Shelton High volleyball coach LeAnne Bianchine said.Arianna BerardiA member of the field hockey and softball teams, Berardi ranked 57th out of 412 in her class, with a grade-point average of 93.22. Other accolades include: field hockey captain, softball captain, SCC All-Academic team, CAPT Scholar, Softball Scholar Athlete Team, World Language Honor Society, Italian Club, SHS Honor Roll, SHS Student of the Month, SHS Student Council parliamentarian, Homeroom representative, volunteer softball coach, Shelton Library volunteer and Book & Achievement award. \u201cAri is a two sport, two captain senior,\u201d Shelton High softball coach Joann Desrochers said. \u201cOne of the founding players of the SHS field hockey team. \u00a0Ari gives 100 percent whether on the field or in the classroom. \u00a0She is always willing to help the younger players and leads by example. \u00a0She is a loyal, honest and trustworthy athlete, student and an asset to Shelton High School.
