Charity ice hockey fund-raiser on Sunday
Troy Deering of Norwalk and Matt Greenhut of Southport, both students and hockey players at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, are coordinating a fund-raiser in memory of Rebecca Audet of Monroe.
The boys will honor her and all that she accomplished by having a 2-on-2 Hockey Tournament with participation by local high school hockey players.
Hockey for Rebecca will take place on Sunday, April, 28 at 4 p.m. at the Fairfield Ice Academy in Fairfield, which has donated the ice time.
Checks should be made out to SWIM Across the Sound – note Hockey for Rebecca in the memo line. For online donations and more information go to: give.stvincents.org/events/event.
Audet was just 29 years old when she lost her battle with cancer on Jan. 22, 2013. When she was in high school, she was Troy and his younger brother Ryan’s babysitter, and ultimately became a close friend of the family.
Married to Ryan Audet and mother to Anya, her life was cut short by cancer. She was a dedicated athlete, who accomplished many great things in her short life and also served as Director of Worldwide Training at Subway’s corporate headquarters in Milford.
Audet was not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well.
The boys are enthusiastic to lace up in memory of Rebecca. They have talked to local businesses about sponsoring the event and are hoping to raise more than $1,000.
Presently, businesses sponsoring the event include: Deering Construction; Triple S, Inc.; Subway, Inc.; Jr’s Deli and Grille and Fairfield Sports.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event will go to St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound in memory of Rebecca. SWIM is a qualified charitable organization providing support to cancer patients and their families.
