Gaelettes' run toward states comes to an end
The Shelton High girls lacrosse team put on an amazing run, turning around a 1-6 start on the season to win five of the last eight including three in a row before it faced off against Pomperaug High in Southbury on Saturday.
In the final game of the regular season, the Gaelettes were playing for a spot in states tournament, but turn-around came to a bitter-sweet end as Pomperaug held on for a 12-7 win.
The Gaelettes fell behind by a 4-0 margin and then banged the nails out to get back in the game, trailing 6-5 at the half.
But, Shelton had no answer for midfielder Shayna Delaney (six goals), who used her height advantage to lead the Panthers to victory.
Aly Ferrante led the Gaelettes with four goals. Kayla Roballey, Carly Shomsky and Sydney Spadinger also scored for Shelton.
