Grizzlies seek help for title defense

A group of local football players, working to keep their dreams of college alive, need help in defending their national championship.

Currently the top-ranked team in the nation by the Intercollegiate Club Football Federation (ICFF) the Southwestern Connecticut Grizzlies have earned a bid to the ICFF National Championship against undefeated Macon State University.

The game will be held in Canton, Ohio, home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Grizzlies are asking for donations to help these players make the trip to the National Championship game.

Southwestern Connecticut Prep was created for students who wanted to continue their football careers after high school, but were not yet ready for a four-year school.

Players are drawn from Connecticut’s community colleges, and do not lose any NCAA eligibility because they play at the club level.

Over the past two seasons, the Grizzlies have helped 10 roster players transition to 4-year universities and colleges.

Checks should be made payable to SWC Grizz LLC and sent to SWC Grizz, 360 West Spring St. Suite B8, West Haven, CT 06516.

Information is available or at 203-339-5821.

About 70 percent of the roster can afford the $200 per player fee to transportation, hotel say and meals.

The rest do not have the funding to be a part of the experience.

All donations will be used solely to help the players.

“The Grizzlies are a wonderful group of young men that will look back at this opportunity as a highlight of their lives,” founder and head coach Bernie Armstrong said. “I hope you can help make one of these athlete’s memories that will last a lifetime.”
