Road race attracting attention
The number of runners for the 2nd annual Naugatuck Savings Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K on Sunday, April 28 has been increased due to an demand.
The race will now allow 3,000 participants to register for this year’s event at Cheshire High. The original limit for this year’s race was set at 2,500 participants, however, with the current number of half marathon and 5K registrations already received, the organizers have decided to allow another 500 registrants to enter the race.
“Current registrations for this year’s race are over 50% ahead of last year’s record amount of registrations,” Bill Costello, race president, said.
The 2012 Naugatuck Savings Bank Cheshire Half Marathon & 5K was the largest inaugural foot race ever held in Connecticut with more than 2,100 participants.
The event will again feature a half marathon, 5K, Kids Fun Run and a Healthy & Active Living Festival. Race proceeds will benefit a number of local charities, including Abilities Without Boundaries, Best Buddies CT, and the Cheshire Lions Club.
The half marathon and 5K races are fairly flat and the half marathon features significant stretches on the Farmington Canal Trail.
The Kids Fun Run will take place on the Cheshire High track.
Runners and walkers can expect great on-course entertainment and live music at the finish line.
