Shelton loses to Notre Dame in opener

The Shelton High baseball team lost its season opener, 3-1, to Notre Dame of West Haven at Quigley Stadium on Wednesday.

Tyler Tice scored a run in the first inning for the Gaels, who were held to six hits by Greg Zullo, who walked five batters and struck out six.

Notre Dame had five hits off Ryan Testani, who walked two batters.

The Green Knights tied the game in the third inning and added two in the fifth.

Mike Cowell, Ed Groth and Tice had two hits and Vin Backert one for Shelton.
