Shelton wins a pair

The Shelton High wrestling team defeated Plainville (69-10) and New Haven (51-27) and lost to Simsbury (57-12) on Saturday.

Coach Bill Maloney’s Gaels are 6-4 on the season and 3-0 in the SCC.

Kyle McGinnis posted a pin in 2:54 at 113 pounds, Nic Pogacsas won a 7-0 decision at 145 and Liam Cummings won a 7-1 decision at 160 for Shelton against Simsbury.

Mackenzie Thompson (1:09 pin  at 182), Will DiMeo (1:07 pin at 195), Alex Merdinger (2:33 pin at 220), Jose Nieves (25-second pin at heavyweight), Nico Distasio (12-7 decision at 106), McGinnis (1:15 pin), Darwin Delgado (1:38 pin at 132), Mike Chernesky (51-second pin at 138) and Pogacsas (43-second pin) won on the mat versus Plainville.

Juan Carlos Baranca (170), Scott Plucenik (120) and Ethan Law (126) were awarded forfeits.

Pogascas (1:34), Cummings (3:34), Barranco (2:58), Thompson (forfeit), Merdinger (8-5 decision), Distasio (49-second pin), McGinnis (forfeit), Plucenik (33-second pin) and Delgado (forfeit) scored points against New Haven.
