The Shelton High boys and girls soccer teams both advanced to the Southern Connecticut Conference semifinals with quarterfinal wins at Finn Stadium on Friday night.

In the girls quarterfinals, Alexis Zoppi bagged a brace of goals, including one on a penalty kick, to power the third-seeded Gaelettes (9-4-3) to a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded West Haven High (10-5-2).

In the nightcap, Wesley Kocurek's strike late in the first half proved to be the difference in third-seeded Shelton's 1-0 triumph over No. 6 seed Branford High (9-6-2).

The boys team (11-0-6) will face either Daniel Hand or Guilford on Monday night, while the girls will take on either Amity or Cheshire.
