It was a dreary week of clouds and rain in Fairfield County but that didn't stop many of the FCIAC athletes on the fields and courts across Connecticut.

The HAN Network's sports editors and broadcasters have nominated 22 male and female athletes for the Spring Week 5 HAN-FCIAC Athletes of the Week. Check out the nominees and vote for your male and female picks below. Ben Schwaeber of Staples lacrosse and Eva Greco of Wilton lacrosse were the Week 4 winners.

This week’s winners (voting is open until Monday at 12:15 a.m.) will be announced during HAN’s Nutmeg Sports show on Monday, May 9, at 2 p.m. You can watch Nutmeg Sports with Rob Adams, Donald Eng and Dave Stewart Monday through Wednesday at 2 at on HAN.Network. HAN-FCIAC Female Athlete of the Week Nominees


Campbell Armstrong, New Canaan Lacrosse


Armstrong scored five goals in New Canaan's 13-12 victory over Yorktown, N.Y., on Saturday. The Rams’ junior midfielder also had four goals and an assist in a 13-10 win over Ludlowe, and two goals and three assists in a 15-11 win over Ridgefield.

Kate Condron, St. Joseph Lacrosse


Kate Condron had five goals and an assist for the Cadets in their 17-6 victory over Westhill High. She had three goals and an assist when St. Joseph topped Kennedy Catholic, 15-8.

Morgan Hickey, Wilton Golf


Morgan Hickey’s round of 37 at Silvermine helped the Warriors to a 172-184 victory over Darien High.

Eva Greco, Wilton Lacrosse


Eva Greco scored five goals for the Warriors when they doubled up Fairfield Warde, 12-6. Wilton improved to 7-4 with the road win over the 8-4 Mustangs.

Jenn Krupa, Stamford Girls Lacrosse


Krupa led the Knights with five goals as they topped the Westhill Vikings, 11-3, for the Stamford city championship. It was the second straight city title for Stamford, which led 6-0 at halftime.

Nicole Williams, St. Joseph Softball


Nicole Williams tossed a two-hitter, struck out 13 batters, and hit a two-run home run in the Cadets’ 11-0 road win over Ridgefield High. Williams also had a triple at the plate, as St. Joseph improved to 12-1 with the win. The game was carried live on HAN; you can rewatch it here .

Chandler Kirby, Darien Girls Lacrosse


Kirby had a game-high six points on four goals and two assists as the Blue Wave rolled to a 16-6 win over Greenwich.

Gabby Natoli, Warde Softball


Natoli had a big game as the Mustangs posted their sixth straight win, 7-1 over Stamford. Natoli started and pitched five-plus innings, allowing just one run on two hits and two hits, while striking out four. At the plate, she drew three walks and scored twice.

Gabby Perry, Staples Softball


Perry went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and four RBIs as Staples defeated Norwalk, 9-8. Her two-run home run made it 9-6 in the top of the seventh, giving the Wreckers some extra cushion.

Sara Staley, Stamford Softball


Staley pitched a two-hitter as Stamford edged Norwich Free Academy, 2-1, in eight innings. Staley pitched a complete game, walking one and striking out four to shut down NFA, which lost for just the second time this season.

Sami Stewart, New Canaan Lacrosse


Stewart filled the stats sheet as New Canaan handed the Ridgefield Tigers their first loss of the season, 15-11, Tuesday at Dunning Field. The senior middie collected three goals, two assists, five draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Stewart also had a hat trick and one assist in the Rams’ 13-12 win at Yorktown, N.Y. on Saturday.


HAN-FCIAC Male Athlete of the Week Nominations


Michael Fanning, Staples Baseball


Michael Fanning hit a pair of homers and drove in five runs when the Wreckers (7-7, 6-4 FCIAC) defeated Norwalk High (7-6, 6-3 FCIAC) by a score of 10-2.

Andrew Baratz, Fairfield Volleyball


Andrew Baratz had 33 assists and six service points in the Mustangs’ 3-2 win over Trumbull High. Fairfield is 6-6. Trumbull is 7-6.

Kenny Brill, Staples Volleyball


Brill had 61 assists and 13 digs in Staples' 3-2 upset win over Ridgefield. The Tigers had swept Staples, 3-0, in the teams' first meeting earlier this season.

Thang Dao, Trumbull Track & Field


Thang Dao scored 23 overall points, the most of any athlete in the competition, with first-place finishes in the 100, 200, 4x100 and 4x400, in the Eagles’ wins over Greenwich and Ridgefield. His 200 time of 23.3 is one of the best so far this season in the FCIAC.

Peter Dearth, Ridgefield Boys Lacrosse


 

Dearth scored three goals and set up the game-winner in overtime, as the Tigers won a thriller against rival Wilton, 7-6, on Thursday. The winning play started when Dearth fired a pass to Schuyler Blair in front of Wilton net, and Blair scored 1:30 into OT. Both players were playing in their first game after being sidelined with injuries.



Will Hallett, Westhill Lacrosse


Will Hallett scored five goals and added an assist in the Vikings 14-0 victory over Bridgeport Central.

Tim Herget, Darien Volleyball


Tim Herget had 17 kills, 12 points from the service line, and seven digs in the Blue Wave’s 3-0 win over Fairfield. Darien is 13-1. Fairfield is 6-7.

Hudson Hamill, Darien Lacrosse


Hamill was a presence on the field in terms of passing, possessing, and defending, as the Wave stayed perfect with a come-from-behind 8-7 win over St. Anthony's of New York on Thursday. Darien, which also defeated Ridgefield, 11-5, on Saturday, is 12-0 this spring.


Jack Kniffin, Darien Lacrosse


Kniffin's second-half hat trick helped Darien rally to beat St. Anthony's, 8-7, and stay unbeaten. Kniffin also had one assist, setting up Kevin Lindley on the goal that tied the score at 7-7. Three days later, Kniffin added another hat trick in the Blue Wave's 11-5 triumph over Ridgefield.

John Natoli, Fairfield Warde Baseball


John Natoli gave up five hits, striking out five, to pitch the Mustangs to a 3-1 victory over Stamford High.  With the win, Warde improved to 9-5, 5-5 in the FCIAC. Stamford is 7-7, 4-6 FCIAC.

R.J. Romeo, Wilton Lacrosse


R.J. Romeo won 23 of 26 face-off draws to lead the attack in the Warriors’ 17-9 win over St. Joseph.

Max Theodorakis, Danbury Golf


Max Theodorakis shot an even par 36 at the Brooklawn Country Club when the Hatters defeated Fairfield Warde, 165-178. The Hatters are 6-1.

Matt Yellen, Trumbull Volleyball


Matt Yellen compiled 41 assists and had 18 digs when Trumbull rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Greenwich, 3-2.
