Who are the UConn women's basketball players to receive preseason honors? Here's a rundown

Many UConn women's basketball players earned preseason Big East awards and landed on national watch lists that honor the best at each position.

But not one UConn player was named to the preseason Associated Press All-America team. Paige Bueckers would surely have been on the team, but the junior guard is out for the season due to an ACL tear.

Azzi Fudd did receive votes for the AP team and she was recognized by The Athletic Wednesday. Fudd was on The Athletic's first-team All-America list, joining Iowa's Caitlin Clark, South Carolina's Aliyah Boston, Stanford's Haley Jones, and Notre Dame's Olivia Miles.

Fudd, expected to be the center of UConn's offense this season, was named to the 2023 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list for an award that recognizes the best shooting guard in the country. UConn's Christyn Williams won the award last year.

Sophomore Caroline Ducharme made the 2023 Cheryl Miller Award watch list for the best small forward in the nation. Gabby Williams from UConn was the 2018 winner.

The watch list for the 2023 Lisa Leslie Award — awarded to the country's best center — includes UConn's Dorka Juhász. Boston has won this award the past three years.

What about UConn junior forward Aaliyah Edwards? Don't worry, she’s made her fair share of lists.

She’s on the watch list for the 2023 Katrina McClain Award, which recognizes the best power forward. Napheesa Collier won that award in 2019.

Edwards also made ESPN’s list for the top 10 players in women’s college basketball who need to have a breakout season.

With Bueckers out, UConn did not place a player on the Nancy Lieberman Award watch list for best point guard. The state was represented, as Yale's Jenna Clark made the list.

Bueckers was the Lieberman Award winner in 2021. Other past UConn winners: Moriah Jefferson, Renee Montgomery, Diana Taurasi, and Sue Bird.

The Huskies also received Big East preseason honors: Ayanna Patterson was named Big East Preseason Freshman of the Year, while Ducharme, Edwards and Fudd (unanimous) were named Big East All-Preseason team and Juhasz was given an honorable mention.
