Snow and some rain is in the forecast for Connecticut on Monday.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory for northern Litchfield County from 2 p.m. Monday to 4 am. Tuesday. Between 2 and 6 inches of snow is expected, mainly in higher elevations.

Torrington and Litchfield are expected to receive between 3 and 4 inches, Waterbury around 2, Danbury and Oxford between 1 and 2 inches and Middletown around a half-inch.

The shoreline likely see with little or no snow accumulation.

The NWS has also issued a Harzardous Weather Outlook for northern Fairfield County. Higher elevations could have localized amounts of 2 to 3 inches of snow this morning into early afternoon.”

Towns in northern New Haven and Middlesex counties are in the 1 to 2-inch range.

The best chance of precipitation is expected between 2 and 11 p.m.

“Low pressure approaches today and passes just south of Long Island late today into this evening,” the NWS says.

“A wintry mix of snow and rain transitions to all rain this afternoon. Away from the coast, across interior southern Connecticut,, snow accumulations of one to three inches is possible in spots before a change over to all rain occurs.

“Temperatures will rise to the upper 30s to middle 40s, warmer along the coast. The rain could be heavy at times late today and into this evening. As the storm departs to the east, any rain will taper off as the night progresses and gusty winds will diminish.

“Tuesday will be dry as high pressure builds. Sunshine returns,and temperatures will warm into the 50s.”

The NWS says there is also a chance of snow on Wednesday night.

Tonight: Rain, mainly before 2 a.m. Steady temperature around 38. East wind 11 to 14 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 51. North wind 7 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of rain after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. North wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable.

Wednesday: Rain, mainly after 8 a.m. High near 43. East wind 8 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Rain before midnight, then rain and snow likely. Low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
